Amtrak Restores Service After Train Strikes Person on Sharon-Area Tracks

Amtrak service through Sharon has been restored tonight after an Amtrak train fatally struck a person on the tracks between the Sharon and Mansfield MBTA commuter rail stations. The MBTA is in the process of restoring its service, along the Providence-Stoughton commuter rail line to Boston's South Station. The accident prompted the MBTA to run shuttle buses from the Sharon station, at 1 Upland Road, during part of the evening commute. Trains to Providence also were delayed or cancelled. The MBTA alerted commuters to the incident at 4:44 p.m. "All Providence service will experience significant delays due to a trespasser strike between Sharon and Mansfield station," the alert says.
