Mansfield boys' basketball team played well offensively and defensively against Sharon Friday.
The Mansfield High boys' basketball team soundly defeated Sharon, 70-51, at home on Friday in a game that was totally about depth of play. “This will be the first year since I started at least that we always play all 10 guys,” Mansfield head coach Michael Vaughan said. “It gives us energy off the bench… You know that they’re going to make some plays to stay out there and I think that was a huge luxery for us.” While Mansfield’s Ryan Boulter led the game with 19 total points (with five three-pointers), Sharon’s Brian Mukasa wasn’t far behind with 17 total points (three three-pointers). Three-run sixth breaks the game open.
Mansfield righthander Trish Hansen scattered four hits and struck out 8 as the Hornets varsity softball team defeated host Sharon, 8-0, at the Ames Street Fields today. Mansfield (8-3) scored two runs in the second inning and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before breaking the game open with a three-run sixth. The Hornets led 7-0 after six. Colleen Larose led Mansfield with two singles, a triple and 2 RBI. Kelly English added two singles, a walk and 2 RBI. Caroline Digiralamo had two singles for Sharon (2-9).

Sharon was a host site for the drama festival preliminaries Saturday.
The Inish eyes are smiling in Sharon today. The Sharon High School Theatre Company on Saturday advanced to the 81st Annual Massachusetts High School Drama Festival 2012 semi-finals with its performance of "The Cripple of Inishmaan" during the preliminary round, according to the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild's website. Mansfield and Winthrop also advanced from the group of seven schools that performed in Sharon on Saturday. The Sharon High auditorium was among 14 host sites statewide for Saturday's 2012 prelims, which included 115 schools. Eagles 5-0 entering last two regular-season meets.
The Sharon High School gymnastics team set a team point record and individual season bests to beat host Mansfield, 145.325 to 144.7, at Arnold's Gymnastics Academy in Mansfield on Saturday. The Eagles also remained perfect this season: 5-0, entering their final two regular-season meets, at North Attleboro this Friday at 7:30 p.m.; and against Attleboro at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Academy of Gymnastics in Stoughton. A tug-of-war between the Mansfield and Sharon high school varsity girls basketball teams ended with the host Hornets winning, 52-47, tonight. Mansfield led by 10 points for most of the first half. Sharon then forced more turnovers and rebounds, and led by 1 halfway through the fourth quarter. The lead switched back and forth for two minutes before Mansfield reclaimed it permanently with 54 seconds left in the game, going ahead, 48-47. “All of a sudden in two minutes, they’re up by one,” Mansfield head coach Michael Redding said. “We played with some poise; even though we lost the lead, we never lost our composure.” Sharon shrunk Mansfield’s lead in the third period to as few as three points. The Mansfield High School varsity boys basketball team held Sharon to 26 second-half points to beat the host Eagles, 69-42, tonight. The Hornets (9-4) trailed 12-11 after the first quarter. Strong defense by Sharon forced numerous Mansfield traveling violations during that period. However, Mansfield scored the first 10 points of the second quarter and outscored Sharon 16-4, taking a 27-16 lead into halftime. Sharon competes in Saturday's Peckam Tournament at Canton.
Wednesday night's Sharon and Mansfield High School varsity wrestling match ended 40-40 after a first-period pin by one of Massachusetts' top wrestlers in the match's final event. Sharon led 40-34 entering that match between Eagles sophomore Brett Robinson and the Hornets' Dan Gilmore in the 152 weight class, Sharon head coach Anthony Lucie said. Gilmore, ranked fifth in Massachusetts in that weight class, pinned Robinson, who's in his first year wrestling varsity, Lucie said. The Mansfield High School varsity girls soccer team scored three times in the first half to beat visiting Sharon, 3-2, in a 2011 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Soccer South Division 1 preliminary round match at Mansfield High on Saturday night. No. 17 Sharon (10-6-4 regular season) tied the score at 1-1 on junior Samantha Alves' goal at 13:50 in the first half, and cut Mansfield's lead to 3-2 on senior Haley Cremer's goal 16 minutes into the second half.
