Sharon's WGBH High School Quiz Show Date Announced

Sharon will take on Rockport on Sunday, March 17.

Students from Sharon High School will take on opponents from Rockport on St. Patrick's Day - Sunday, March 17 - as part of this year's WGBH High School Quiz Show competition.  WGBH released the official 2013 tournament bracket for the competition on Monday, highlighting the 16 qualifying teams with corresponding broadcast dates.  Each episode will premiere on Sundays at 6:30 p.m., and will repeat on Saturdays at 6 p.m. on WGBH 2. Below is the full schedule: Students from Sharon also competed on the program in 2012, but lost in the first-round match to Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School. Sharon Students to Compete in WGBH's 'High School Quiz Show'

The students will take part in Season Four of the program, which premiers on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Sharon High School has been named among 16 schools across the state to have a team advance for competition on the fourth season of WGBH's High School Quiz Show.  The academic program, hosted by Billy Costa, will premier on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. on WGBH Channel 2.  Teams qualified for the program by earning top scores on Super Sunday. At that event, registered teams took an identical 100 question oral quiz at the WGBH studios in Brighton, according to a recent announcement from WGBH.  Students from Sharon also competed on the program in 2012, but lost in the first-round match to Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School. Citing Hurricane Sandy, Final Brown-Warren Senate Debate Won't be Held

In a statement, Brown's camp said it was "not appropriate to go forward with a political debate when a disaster strikes."

There will be no final debate between Republican Senator Scott Brown and Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren, because of Hurricane Sandy. The two were scheduled to debate Tuesday on WGBH-TV. "The Scott Brown campaign today announced that out of concern for the hardship faced by people in the path of Hurricane Sandy that he will not be participating in tomorrow's fourth and final debate," said Brown Communication Director Colin Reed. "It is simply not appropriate to go forward with a political debate when a disaster strikes. The focus for all of us before, during and after the storm needs to be on emergency response and disaster relief, not campaigns and politics." Justin, please don't spew spat. If you believe what you wrote, take the time to be specific as in what freedoms your referring to? For intance, Brown is opposed to gay marriage so in my opinion, DOMA is not only restricting rights, but will be found unconstitutional on various levels. Sharon High Quiz Show Team Needs Cheering Section

First match tapes this Saturday.

Will Sharon High School's High School Quiz Show team hear much applause while taping its first-round match Saturday? WGBH hopes the answer is yes. Tuesday, WGBH invited Sharon residents ages 7 and older to join the audience for the 11:15 a.m. taping at the TV station's studios at 1 Guest St., Brighton. Guests are asked to arrive for 10:15 a.m. Interested fans should register here. WGBH is asking all audience members to keep the match results confidential until after the Feb. 19 broadcast. Sharon High Draws Rematch In Quiz Show Opener

Sharon will face state champion Hamilton-Wenham, which won their 2011 Eastern Mass. semifinal game.

Sharon High School's High School Quiz Show 2012 state title pursuit will begin where last year's run ended. Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School will be Sharon's first-round opponent in the 16-team single-elimination tournament, show officials announced today. The program airs at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 on WGBH-2, and repeats at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Hamilton-Wenham defeated Sharon, 295-210, in the Eastern Mass. semi-finals last season. Hamilton-Wenham won the state title, defeating Mt. Greylock Regional High School, 870-610. The 2012 season premiere is Feb. 12 and features Brookline against Seekonk. Sharon High School will try avenging last year's Eastern Mass. semifinal loss on High School Quiz Show. A WGBH production team announced today the 16 Massachusetts public high schools -- including Sharon -- that will compete during season three of the public broadcasting station's Emmy-Award winning fast-paced academic game show hosted by Billy Costa. The season premiere is Feb. 12. Sharon's on-air team will be junior Frank Zhou and sophomores Peter Riley, Siddharth Singh and Clara Mao, adviser Valerie Gundlah said. The alternates are juniors Pittayut Phonboon and Hari Anbarasu. Sharon High Seeks Quiz Show Return

One year after reaching semifinals, SHS among 91 schools competing Sunday for the 16 spots on the WGBH program.

Sharon High School's first year in WGBH's High School Quiz Show ended in the Eastern Mass. semifinals. Sunday, Sharon students compete for a second shot at the state title. WGBH's Brighton studio will host teams from 91 Massachusetts public high schools in a "Super Sunday" contest. The highest-scoring 16 teams of four students on a 100-question quiz will compete in the single-elimination tournament, hosted by Billy Costa, WGBH said in a press release.
