Place corned beef fat side up in a large pot and cover with water. 2. Bring water to a boil and add the contents of the spice package. 3. Reduce heat and simmer, covered; one hour per pound. 4. Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in the Sharon Area

St. Patrick's Day weekend is upon us, and if you're looking for ways to celebrate in the Sharon area, we've got you covered.  First, be sure to check out Mick Morgan's Annual St. Patrick's Day 5K Road Race to benefit HESSCO Elder Services. The event runs from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. Cost is $25 for pre-registration $30 the day of the race. All proceeds from the race will be used to support HESSCO's programs for local seniors and those who care for them. Also nearby, in Walpole, be sure to stop by Finnegan's Wake, which will be hosting the following events this weekend: It's hard to mention St. Patrick's Day without bringing the Irish Cultural Centre into the discussion. An Irish Soda Bread Recipe for St. Patrick's Day

Here's an easy recipe for Irish soda biscuits.

This recipe for Irish soda biscuits comes from Food Network, it's easy and tasty. Ingredients Directions Mix flour, sugar, baking soda and kosher salt in a bowl. Work in butter by hand. Add raisins and caraway seeds. Mix in buttermilk. Pat out the dough until 1 inch thick; cut into four to six 2 1/2-inch rounds. Bake at 375 degrees F, 15 to 20 minutes. Sharon's WGBH High School Quiz Show Date Announced

Sharon will take on Rockport on Sunday, March 17.

Students from Sharon High School will take on opponents from Rockport on St. Patrick's Day - Sunday, March 17 - as part of this year's WGBH High School Quiz Show competition.  WGBH released the official 2013 tournament bracket for the competition on Monday, highlighting the 16 qualifying teams with corresponding broadcast dates.  Each episode will premiere on Sundays at 6:30 p.m., and will repeat on Saturdays at 6 p.m. on WGBH 2. Below is the full schedule: Students from Sharon also competed on the program in 2012, but lost in the first-round match to Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School. HESSCO, Mick Morgan's Start 5K For Seniors

The race is on St. Patrick's Day.

A new St. Patrick's Day 5K will bring good things to Sharon seniors. Sharon's HESSCO Elder Services and Mick Morgan's Restaurant and Irish Pub are partnering for the first Mick Morgan's St. Patrick's 5K Road Race, at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 17, HESSCO announced Friday. The registration fee is $25 if submitted online or mailed, and $30 for walk-ups. The mail-in registration deadline is March 1. Race-day registration starts at 8 a.m. The proceeds will benefit HESSCO's programs for seniors and their caregivers, HESSCO said in a press release. Registration forms are available at http://www.hessco.org/st-patricks-5k . HESSCO serves Canton, Dedham, Foxboro, Medfield, Millis, Norfolk, Norwood, Plainville, Sharon, Walpole, Westwood and Wrentham.
