Sharon voters might have a choice for assessor at the May 15 annual town election. Incumbent Richard Gorden has taken out nomination papers for another three-year term on the board. Mink Trap Lane resident Thomas Corrado also has taken out papers. The deadline for taking out nomination papers is noon Friday, March 23. Nomination papers must be submitted to the Board of Registrars of Voters for certification of names by 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 27. Oak Hill Drive resident Kirstin Gray recently took out papers for a three-year term on the Sharon Public Library Board of Trustees, joining incumbent Robert Levin. A woman who lost a horse in the November 2010 Yankee Kennels barn fire wants to keep another horse at her boyfriend's Sharon home. However, some of Kenneth Efron's neighbors expressed odor and other concerns to the board of health Monday night during a public hearing at the Sharon Town Offices. The board continued the hearing until 8 p.m. March 5, asking Efron to return with a plot plan showing the proposed corral location on the Massapoag Avenue property where he resides. His family's trust owns the site. "I don't want to give permission to do something, especially with a waiver, until we know exactly what you're going to do," health board member Edward Welch said. Selectmen schedule fall special session for Dec. 3.
The busy 2012 election season will push Sharon's fall special town meeting nearly into winter. Selectmen voted Tuesday night to schedule the meeting for Dec. 3. In a letter, Town Clerk Marlene Chused asked selectmen to schedule the meeting while avoiding manpower and time conflicts with the state and federal election season, Chairman Richard Powell said. Powell said he supported choosing Dec. 3. "The later you get into December, you have weather issues, people start going on vacation," he said. Town Administrator Benjamin Puritz noted that whether to actually have the town meeting is a separate issue facing selectmen, per a town meeting vote.
