Editor's Note: The following was submitted as a press release from Sharon resident Laura Henze Russell, Principal and Founder of Hidden River Health Challenge - SafeAMER. Are you aware of the health risks associated with dental amalgam? It is 50 percent mercury, a potent neurotoxin. It is now proven to emit toxic mercury vapors in the presence of heat and abrasion. It is now proven to be a factor or co-factor in a host of chronic, devastating, costly diseases across the age spectrum. Yet the FDA has not yet acted upon the recommendations of its Scientific Advisory Panels in 2006 and 2010 to restrict its use. This topic hits all too close to home for Sharon resident Laura Henze Russell. Russell became ill in March of 2011, and grew …

Massachusetts is now leading the charge to overturn the 2010 Citizens United decision. To date, 73 Massachusetts cities and towns have passed local resolutions calling on the U.S. Congress to pass a Constitutional Amendment to address the unbalanced influence of corporate money in our elections. Sharon could become the 74th with your vote! Sharon's local resolution is going to be put to a vote at their Special Town Meeting on Monday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at Sharon High School auditorium. At recent town meeting in another Massachusetts community, the first vote on a similar resolution resulted in a tie and then was defeated on the second vote; if one more "yes" voter had attended, it would have changed the defeat to a victory. So please attend …

Editor's Note: the following was submitted to Sharon Patch by local resident Paul Lauenstein. In 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that a Federal Election Commission (FEC) limit on fundraising and spending by a political action committee (PAC) called Citizens United was unconstitutional. This ruling effectively opened the floodgates for political fundraising and spending. Imagine what it’s like to be a member of Congress. Every time you take a position on an issue, you must choose between the best interests of the general public, or the special interests of your campaign donors. If you ignore your donors, you are likely to face a well-funded opponent and an avalanche of attack ads in the next election. Negative political advertising …

You definitely need 30 to 60 horsepower to brave the high, turbulent seas of Lake Massapoag. As an added benefit, beachgoers can leave their sunscreens at home as they will be well-coated by the oily sheen left by the motor boats.   more ›
