The Sharon Police Department conducted its sixth "Junior Cadet Academy" at the police station, May 18-19. The program is designed for middle school aged youth to see "inside" the Sharon Police Department and how we function. Sixteen students were chosen out of numerous applications. The applicant's responses to questions on the application were reviewed to help determine who would be selected. The cadets received an extensive tour of the police station while observing demonstrations of the various functions a police officer performs. These included a firearms demonstration, police equipment review, arrest booking procedures, crime scene investigation, canine narcotics demonstration, CPR, Taser, radar demonstration, motor vehicle stop …

Officials have set aside $200,000 to study Sharon's police and fire stations and determine the best way for the departments to be brought up to current standards.
A new committee in Sharon was formed last week to choose an architect who would do a feasibility study on the town's aging police and fire stations. The Public Safety Feasibility Study Committee comprises Town Administrator Ben Puritz, Department of Public Works Superintendent Eric Hooper, Town Engineer Peter O'Cain, Police Chief Joseph Bernstein, Fire Chief Jim Wright, Selectman Joe Roach and two citizens, Rick Rice and Bill Croteau, who are both architects. Sharon Police arrested three individuals from Norwood on Monday after investigating a recently-reported housebreak on High Plain Street in Sharon. Police received a 911 call from a resident of that road around 4:50 p.m. on Monday, May 13, according to a news release from Sharon Police on Wednesday. "The resident was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect motor vehicle," Lt. Tilden Kaufman wrote in a statement to Sharon Patch. "A very short time later, Sharon Police Officer Richard Derry observed this vehicle operating on Edgehill Road." A middle aged man was taken to Norwood Hospital for injuries.
A middle aged man was hospitalized after his pickup truck struck a telephone pole on South Main Street this evening rolling the truck on its side. According to Sharon Fire Captain Bryant Simpson, the man was trapped in the vehicle and fire crews needed the Jaws of Life to pull him from the truck. The man was taken to Norwood Hospital. Simpson said he did not know the extent of the injuries but believes they are non-life threatening. The man was the only person involved in the accident. Simpson said South Main Street will be closed for an extended period of time. “They have to replace a pole and do some work down there before they’re going to open it back up,” Simpson said. The call came in around 6:15 p.m.
