How to Get Your Spring Sports Team Featured on Patch

Here are several ways you can make sure your sports teams are highlighted on Sharon Patch this season.

Spring sports at Sharon High School are set to begin the first week of April with many teams looking to build on their success in 2012. Around town, youth sports are also underway and we want to help share all the great moments and highlights from this spring with the community. We are looking for athletes, coaches, parents, booster club members and fans who are ready, willing and able to show their team spirit on Sharon Patch. News about any team -- high school, middle school, rec. teams, etc. – is welcome! Here's how you can share news about your sports team this fall: 1. Sharon High has 7 -- and Coach --on Ultimate Disc All-States

Eight members of Sharon High School's 2012 Ultimate Disc program -- including A-team head coach Dave Christiansen and captains Sam D'Arcy and Jonah Kurman-Faber -- are All-State selections. USA Ultimate has named Christiansen its Massachusetts Open Division 1 Coach of the Year, according to its website. D'Arcy and Kurman-Faber were named to the Massachusetts Open Division 1 second team. The state coaches and players were chosen through a "peer nomination and voting process," the organization says. Sharon High Athletics in Fall Sports Mode

Online registration launched.

Prospective Sharon High School fall athletes should go online now to avoid waiting in line before tryouts, varsity girls soccer head coach Jon Lavien said Tuesday. Fall sports registration forms and packets are on the high school athletic department website thanks to new Athletic Director William Martin, Lavien said. The goal is to get players registered before the first day of tryouts, he said. Before, registrations were handled by the athletic director starting that day, requiring students to wait in line before heading to the field. Regarding his own team, Lavien said that "we want all the girls to know that if they haven't registered online, they can register all the way up to before school starts." Wayland Edges Sharon For Boys Tennis Title

The Warriors won, 3-2, on Tuesday.

The Sharon High School boys tennis team lost to Wayland, 3-2, in the 2012 MIAA Boys Team Tennis Eastern Mass Division 2 final Tuesday, according to the tournament website. The match pitted the South D2 champion Eagles against the North D2 champion Warriors at Newton North, in the season's finale. Coached by Matt Freeman, Sharon finishes 2012 at 20-1, including 16-0 during the regular season, and the Eagles' 33rd straight Hockomock League crown. The Eagles were seeded first in the 18-team South D2 bracket, earning a preliminary round bye. They then defeated Sandwich in the first round, 5-0; Falmouth in the quarterfinals, 4-1; Medfield in the semifinals, 3-2; and Hingham in the finals, 3-2. Sharon High Boys Tennis Flies Back Into State Division 2 Title Match

For the second straight year, the Sharon High School boys tennis team is undefeated entering its final match of the year. The state championship match. Sweeping doubles and winning second singles, the Eagles (20-0, between the regular season and state tournament) earned their second consecutive Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Team Tennis South Division 2 title today by defeating Hingham, 3-2, in the South D2 finals, held at Medway High School. Sharon plays North D2 champion Wayland at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newton North High School for the championship. Wayland is seeded second in the 17-team North D2 bracket. Sharon High Baseball Defeated in State Tourney Game

Hopkinton won today's South D2 quarterfinal.

The Sharon High School varsity baseball team lost to host Hopkinton, 7-2, in the 2012 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Baseball South Division 2 quarterfinals today, according to the tourney website. The Eagles finished the state tournament 1-1. They were 8-12 during the regular season, and seeded last in the 12-team bracket. Fourth-seed Hopkinton (16-4 during the regular season, 1-0 in the tournament) advances to Saturday's South D2 semifinal against top-seed Dighton-Rehoboth (18-2, 1-0) at noon at Brockton's Campanelli Stadium, home of the Brockton Rox. The winner of the Hopkinton and Dighton-Rehoboth game advances to the South D2 final against the winner of today's Oliver Ames-Plymouth North semifinal.

UPDATED: Sharon Boys Tennis Returns to South D2 Finals of State Tournament

Team depth propelled the Sharon High School boys tennis team to one win away from its second straight state Division 2 final match. Winning at first and third singles, and second doubles, the Eagles defeated Medfield, 3-2, in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Team Tennis South Division 2 semifinals. The teams played today at the Adirondack Club in Franklin, rather at Sharon High, due to rain. "Just a clutch performance from our depth positions," Sharon head coach Matt Freeman said. "(At third singles, senior) Aditya (Puttigampala) had huge leg cramps. He stepped up when he needed to. I thought second doubles played their best match of the season. Sharon High's Hichens Places 21st in Two All-State Events

Fitchburg State University hosted Tuesday's meet.

Sharon High School senior Connor Hichens placed 21st in both the long jump and triple jump Tuesday at the 2012 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association All State Track & Field Outdoor Championships. Hichens' mark in the long jump was 21 feet, 1.25 inches, according to the meet website. Pembroke senior Kris Horn won the event with a leap of 23 feet, 11.25 inches. Hichens' mark in the triple jump was 42 feet, 10.25 inches. Xaverian junior Dana Pagliuca was first, with a leap of 46 feet, 4 inches. Fitchburg State University hosted the meet. Hichens graduated from Sharon High this past Sunday.

Sharon's Southard is State Girls Individual Golf Champion

The Eagles senior won Tuesday's event, held in Mattapoisett.

Sharon High School senior Isabel Southard finished her high school career Tuesday as the 2012 Massachusetts Girls Individual champion. Southard shot a 4-over-par 75 at the Bay Club in Mattapoisett, according to the tournament website. Southard finished five strokes ahead of Scituate's Mary Mulcahy, who shot an 80. Shrewsbury's Madi West shot an 81 to finish third. Southard will attend Boston College this fall. She graduated from Sharon High this past Sunday.
