Sharon Parents to Hear About Raising 'Responsible' Kids

The Sharon Education Foundation and the Everwood Day Camp are sponsoring Wednesday night's talk.

Dr. Michael Thompson defines a "responsible child" as one who "has enough of an emotional foundation that he or she can meet the many moral demands of family and group life: rules, traditions, and expectations." "Of course, no child is ever perfectly responsible, but for the most part, a responsible child can meet the vast majority of developmentally appropriate expectations, has some personal discipline, and can distinguish right from wrong," says Thompson, a consultant, author and psychologist. Thompson will discuss "How to Raise Responsible Children" from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Everwood Lodge at the Everwood Day Camp. Sharon Groups Receive Dedham Savings Foundation Funds

Two $2,500 awards are approved: the Sharon Education Foundation/Sharon Pluralism Network, and YouthLEAD.

The Dedham Institution for Savings Foundation has approved two Sharon community requests for $2,500. The Sharon Education Foundation/Sharon Pluralism Network and YouthLEAD applications were among those the savings foundation's trustees funded last Friday. The savings foundation announced the list, totaling $103,200, Monday in a press release. The list includes:

Sharon Welcomes Fish Home From New School

Sharon Education Foundation honors former Sharon High educator.

Hugs and love letters welcomed William Fish home Thursday night after a two-month absence. Former colleagues, students and community members hugged the former Sharon High School math teacher and assistant principal, who left Sharon this summer, after seven years, to become Norwell High School principal. Fish returned to receive the Sharon Education Foundation's 2011 Lee Flaxer Award. A letter from a former Sharon High math student, who read it aloud during the festivities, especially moved him. "I'm trying to catch my breath after Anna's letter," Fish told the audience in the Sharon Community Center ballroom. "I have to tell you: that's the second time I've heard that letter. It gets me."
