The Daily Doze: Sharon Planning Board to Meet Wednesday

Sharon TV Show Organizers Celebrate Anniversary

Two years ago, attorney Roberta Saphire and financial organizer Camille Barron, both of Sharon, launched their new series on Sharon Community Television, “The Law, Your Money and You!”    Recently, the two co-producers and hosts thanked its guest speakers and supporters at an Anniversary Event, held at the Saphire Estate in Sharon on Sunday, Sept. 23.  The popular show offers practical information about legal and financial matters that affect most consumers. Sharon Revisiting Martin Luther King's Legacy

Panel discussion planned for Wednesday night features both adults and students.

Chuck Walker Jr. has a question about such events as President Barack Obama's election, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the Occupy Movement. "Is this also part of (Dr. Martin Luther) King's legacy?" Walker asks. A "Martin Luther King's Legacy, and What it Means to Us Today" panel discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Sharon Adult Center and Council on Aging will ask such questions, Walker says. "I don't know how other people are about this," he said during a recent interview in the Sharon Community Television studios. Resident Steve Connolly is exploring the Revolutionary War heroine's life, and sorting through the inconsistencies.

Sharon's Deborah Sampson Park evokes Steve Connolly's memories of childhood baseball games. Connolly now is exploring the history books' memories of Deborah Sampson. Inconsistencies about the Sharon Revolutionary War heroine's history -- including how the proper spelling "Samson" became "Sampson" -- are being explored in a series of Sharon Community Television documentaries that grew out of Connolly's ongoing research, which he started a year ago. He has read more than a half-dozen books, visited her homes, spoken with actors portraying her ancestors, and made over 100 contacts toward identifying where facts don't jibe. To the Editor:   The Town of Sharon is currently involved with relicensing negotiations with the cable company, Comcast.  As part of those negotiations, the town and Comcast are negotiating the financial assistance Sharon Community Television (channels 8, 12 and 22 on your cable system) will receive in the next license period.    For over 25 years, SCTV has provided extensive coverage of government meetings, school events, high school and youth sports, and other community activities. SCTV also provides the public with up-to-date information about events taking place in our community. SCTV also offers dozens of hours of programming each year produced by local residents.    SCTV is a non-profit organization that relies 100 percent on the …

VIDEO: SCTV Airing EEE Public Service Announcement

Sharon Community Television is airing an Eastern Equine Encephalitis public service announcement from Norfolk County Mosquito Control Project Director John Smith. Smith taped the message in Sharon on Friday, according to SCTV. The spot is airing on channels 8, 22, and 12 after most programs. EEE-positive bird- and mammal-biting mosquito pools were trapped in Sharon recently, and tested positive for the virus last week.
