The Sharon Adult Center and Council on Aging lunch drew 23 people age 90 or older.

Twenty-three people shared secrets -- and lunch -- at the Sharon Adult Center and Council on Aging today. Each person was 90 or older. And some of them shared their secret for living long, vibrant lives during this special event, emceed by retired Sharon Recreation Director Dave Clifton.

Sharon Town Meeting Request Would Expand Volunteer Tax Work Program

Disabled residents could have a proxy volunteer for them, if the warrant article passes.

More Sharon residents could apply to benefit from a tax reduction program if voters pass a proposal at Monday night's annual town meeting, Sharon Adult Center and Council on Aging Executive Director Norma Simons Fitzgerald said Friday. The council on aging proposes adjusting the volunteer work program to allow residents with documented disabilities to have proxies volunteer for town departments for them, according to the warrant. The program currently allows residents over age 60 to do this volunteer work in exchange for a tax bill reduction. More than 10 years ago, Sharon adopted a state law allowing this program, Fitzgerald said. Not long ago, the law changed, allowing communities to offer the program to disabled residents, she said.
