Sharon High Theatre Advances to State Festival Semis

Sharon was a host site for the drama festival preliminaries Saturday.

The Inish eyes are smiling in Sharon today. The Sharon High School Theatre Company on Saturday advanced to the 81st Annual Massachusetts High School Drama Festival 2012 semi-finals with its performance of "The Cripple of Inishmaan" during the preliminary round, according to the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild's website. Mansfield and Winthrop also advanced from the group of seven schools that performed in Sharon on Saturday. The Sharon High auditorium was among 14 host sites statewide for Saturday's 2012 prelims, which included 115 schools. Mansfield performed "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged (Act II)." Winthrop performed "Charlie Foster." Also, Norwood performed "The Suicide." Ludlow performed "Adonais."  …

Shakespeare Fan Enjoying New Role At Sharon High

New Assistant Principal William Klements taught English at Norwood High for the past six years.

If the fates are kind, Sharon High School's first day of class won't be a comedy of errors for new Assistant Principal William Klements. That said, Klements is a fan of Shakespeare's plays -- particularly of the bard's comedies. "He understands people, in my opinion, better than anyone that's ever written," Klements says of Shakespeare, for whom his appreciation developed in college. "I'm a fan of the comedies because they're not taught as much in schools. Kids will read 'MacBeth.' And kids will read 'Romeo and Juliet.' And if you're not careful, in Shakespeare, everybody dies and it's all misery. In the comedies, everyone winds up living happily ever after. It's important to see those, too."
