Latest Hurricane Sandy Forecast: Most Severe Intensity Monday Night

As predicted earlier, Sandy's most severe wind-lashing is expected this evening, as the hurricane makes landfall in New Jersey.

After a day where thousands of New Englanders have lost power, roads and buildings have been flooded and winds-and-rain have lashed everyone, we're just on the verge of the worst of it. Forecasters have been warning that Monday evening would be New England's moment of most severe intensity for Sandy. That prediction seems to be right on-target. "Like a large nor'easter on steroids" According to Accuweather forecasters, Hurricane Sandy is poised for a New Jersey landfall any moment now. Those same Accuweather forecasters are calling Sandy a "Northeast catastrophe unfolding."  "Conditions will deteriorate through the day Monday with the worst of the storm spreading inland Monday night into Tuesday," says Accuweather. When it Comes to Hurricane Sandy, Gov. Patrick Hoping For Best, Planning For Worst

The governor said Hurricane Sandy could hit Sunday night and linger into Wednesday.

Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency and held a press conference Saturday afternoon to update to the public about how the state is preparing for the impact of Hurricane Sandy.  Sandy is currently a category 1 hurricane rolling up the Atlantic and is expected to turn northwest Sunday afternoon. Impact on New England from the storm is expected by Sunday night and could linger until Wednesday. "While we continue to hope for the best, we are planning for the worst," Patrick said. "This afternoon I declared a state of emergency commonwealth-wide," Patrick said. "This enables us to cut through some…

But the combination of high winds and heavy rain did cause property damage from downed tree limbs and water. If your home or automobile sustained damage as a result of the storm, you may have a right to make a claim either against your homeowner’s or automobile insurance policy. If you have flood insurance, that may be applicable as well. If the damage was caused by a tree on someone else’s property, you may have a right to bring a claim against the neighbor. There are some basic things you should do when pursuing an insurance claim. First, make sure that you document carefully all items that are going to be the subject of a claim. …

Sharon Getting Square Jam Message: Be Aware Of AM 1630

Civil Defense Department seeks to raise awareness of Sharon's emergency radio station.

Listening to AM radio before, during or after Sharon's Square Jam on Thursday may make residents feel safer during a storm. Sharon's Civil Defense Department will use its emergency station, AM 1630, on Thursday as it would if an emergency accident closed Post Office Square, the Square Jam's site. The station will broadcast a Square Jam emergency 911 parking message from noon to either 10 or 11 p.m., Civil Defense Director Michael Polimer and fellow volunteer Chuck Levine said Tuesday. The small all-volunteer department also will have signs directing motorists to tune into the station for this information. “Because of the nature of Square Jam, we basically block off the square,” Polimer said. “If we had an area that we wanted to block off, …
