The Eagles next compete in the Sectionals, on Feb. 25.
The Sharon High School gymnastics team was honored as the Hockomock League's defending Davenport Division champions Saturday night, and then recorded more top performances. The Eagles saw junior Samantha Kaplan repeat as league champion in the all-around with a score of 37.9, co-coach Jamie Whiting said. Kaplan won all four events: vault (9.5), bars (9.5), beam (9.5) and floor (9.4). Sharon also got first-place finishes from junior Alicia Dagle (beam) and senior tri-captain Melissa Steinberg (floor). Senior Brian Le finished second in the vault. Sophomore Chelsea Noller finished tied for second in floor. Dagle and sophomore Marielle Fisher placed fourth in bars and beam, respectively. And junior Jessica Chabot placed fifth in the all-…

Eagles could do well in long jump, high jump, sprints, relays.
The Sharon High School varsity girls winter track team is eyeing strong showings in a number of events at today's Hockomock League Championships. However, a lack of depth could hurt the Eagles, as it has since the cross-country season this fall. "Even if we do get girls that go 1-2-3, there's way too many events and not enough girls to cover all of those events," senior co-captain Jessica Oknin says. The league championships are underway at Boston's Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. "I think we have a bunch of really strong competitors in a variety of events," senior co-captain Meri Kushner says. "I think we should have a bunch of people placing top 10." Oknin says those events should include the high jump, the long jump, sprints and…

Sharon finished its dual meet season 3-1.
The Sharon High School varsity boys winter track team hopes to see one Eagles name after another in today's Hockomock League Championship results. Senior tri-captain Xander Bennett says the team members have "become more specialized" over the dual meet season. "We have people who are running one event, and they're doing it really well, and getting a first, second or third," Bennett says. "They're placing a lot more than they have. We're not as spread out as before." Bennett and classmates David Dones and Michael Dupuis are the Eagles' tri-captains this season. Bennett is among Sharon's top sprinters, Dones leads the throwers and Dupuis the distance group. The league championships are underway at Boston's Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic …

The league championships will be held at Arnold's in Mansfield.
The Sharon High School gymnastics team heads into Saturday's Hockomock League Championship meet after finishing its regular season perfect -- for the second straight year. The Eagles are 7-0 after defeating visiting Attleboro, 141.35 to 129.25, at the Academy of Gymnastics in Stoughton on Tuesday night. Sharon is undefeated for the second straight season, Athletic Director Robert Sondheim said today. The Eagles were 8-0 in 2011. Junior Samantha Kaplan "entered into the state 9.5 club again on bars," co-coach Jamie Whiting said. "(And sophomores) Johanna El-Khoury and Erin Moore had a season highs on balance beam." Sharon honored its four seniors -- tri-captains Cori Plesko, Sara Spelfogel and Melissa Steinberg, and Brian Lee -- during its …

The league championships are at North Attleboro High School.
The Sharon High School varsity wrestling team today is competing in the Hockomock League Championships at North Attleboro High School. The Eagles will succeed there by "just wrestling tough. Being confident. Doing what we're capable of," senior Luke Coughlin said Friday. Coughlin, senior Taj Salam and junior Russell Locke are Sharon's tri-captains this season. "It's a tough tournament. We should have some kids who should place, if everyone wrestles well," Salam said. "It should be fun." Coughlin predicted Sharon could finish third or fourth today. "I think we've got a few kids who could definitely come in first, and a bunch of kids who should place," Coughlin said. Coughlin said the Eagles have "seen steady improvements from the …

Eagles girls team places eighth.
The Sharon High School boys cross-country team placed sixth and the girls team placed eighth at Saturday's Hockomock League Championships. Mansfield won the boys meet with 44 points. Sharon finished with 155 points, seven behind Foxborough at the 3.1-mile course at Borderland State Park in Easton. Franklin won the girls meet with 38 points. Sharon finished with 227 points. Junior captain Caroline Sun placed fourth overall, with a personal best time of 19:26, Alan Conway, one of the Eagles' coaches, said Monday. The Sharon boys "ran their best times of the season," Conway said. Conway said the Eagles' top seven finishers were: sophomore Brendan Lee, 17:35; senior captain Dan Scribner, 17:44; sophomore Adam Selsman, 17:46; senior captain Ben…

Eagles competing in Saturday's Hockomock League Championships.
The Sharon High School girls cross-country team heads to Saturday's Hockomock League Championships with a math challenge. The Eagles have fewer runners than many of their opponents. And while Sharon runners have finished first or in the top five at several meets this fall, the competition has won meets by out-numbering them. Junior Caroline Sun, who captains the team with classmate Sami Kaplan, says winning Saturday at the 3.1-mile course at Borderland State Park in Easton will be "difficult, but our underclassmen are definitely improving." "They're filling those other spots. Every single meet, we've been telling them to just pick off those people and get the best places they can. And they've been doing that." Sharon is 2-6 this season (1…

An improved Sharon squad heads to Saturday's Hockomock League Championships.
Opponents may notice the Sharon High School boys cross-country team walking taller during Saturday's Hockomock League Championships. "We're a lot better than we were at the beginning of the year. We have more confidence. And we've already matched up against most of the teams in the Hock, and we've done pretty well. So, we know what to expect," says senior Ben Ryter, who captains the Eagles with classmate Danny Scribner. Sharon is 5-3 (3-1 in its division) entering Saturday's meet, at the 3.1-mile course at Borderland State Park in Easton. "Borderland's a really nice course. It's fast, and we should do pretty well there," Ryter says. Scribner says the Eagles roster is "a lot stronger than it's been" in recent years. "The past few years, we'…
