Congressman Joe Kennedy III Visits Astronaut Program in Sharon

The program has spanned the entire school district in Sharon and all the classes congregated in the gymnasium to watch, listen and learn about NASA on Friday.

5 Things Nov 16: Adventures at Stone Barn Farm's Owl Prowl

The Senior Center has many offerings today.

1. From 10:30 - 11 a.m. today, there will be a Tot Time Storytime for children three and younger at the Sharon Public Library. We'll share a short picture book, songs and fingerplays.  2. The Sharon Senior Center offers these classes today:  3. There will be Pre-K storytime with a craft for ages 4-5 years old at the Sharon Public Library from 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. This week's theme: Thanksgiving.  4. Tonight it's the Heights Elementary School pizza night for Grades 2 and 3.  5. There is an Owl Prowl at Stone Barn Farm today from 6-8 p.m., sponsored by Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary and the Mass Audubon.

  The Heights Elementary School hosted their Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct 20. The event took over the whole school. Each room represented a different activity from face painting, a cake walk, a slime maker, pumpkin decorating, blow up jumping gyms and even an indoor yard sale. Heights Elementary Teacher Granted Lee Flaxer Award

Dianne Needle, President of the Sharon Education Foundation (SEF) awarded the 2012 Lee Flaxer Award to Timothy Vigorito, Physical Education teacher at Heights Elementary School last Thursday.  Vigorito has been a dedicated teacher and curriculum coordinator in Sharon since 1995. He began his career in Sharon as the health teacher for all three schools. Six years later, he began teaching physical education at Heights Elementary. Vigorito is an accomplished educator who has spearheaded aids education and awareness training, mentored inner city students brought to Sharon through the METCO program and consulted with parents and administrators throughout the …

   The Early Childhood Book Fair begins today and runs through Friday. 1. 9:00 am - YOGA at the Sharon Council on the Aging. After class stick around for the 10:00 am Memoir Writing Class and at 1:00 pm there's an Open Art Studio and recreational scrabble. The Sharon Council on the Aging offers twoclasses in T'AI CHI at 9 a.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. T'AI CHI has been known to help reduce falls in the elderly based on a study which was performed over a four month period. The risks of falling were reduced by 40% as the participants relied less on their walkers and wheelchairs after learning the movement of T'AI CHI. 3. Thermo Fisher Scientists Teach Sharon's Heights Students About Pollution

A physical fitness lesson next year will be inspired by the scientists' recent demonstration.

A physical fitness lesson in the Heights Elementary School gymnasium next year will be inspired by a recent science lesson. Three Thermo Fisher Scientific scientists, including its chief scientist, showed Heights students to identify various pollutants, said Andrew Amrhein, the Franklin firm's director of information technology, global strategy execution. The lesson was a warm-up of sorts to a physical fitness one next fall or spring, involving measuring the carbon dioxide in the gym, Heights physical education teacher Tim Vigorito said. Carbon dioxide meters will record the CO2 level before students exercise, and "then after 10 minutes of exercise and deep breathing, how much more carbon dioxide they've generated in the gym," he said. Sharon Education Foundation Names Vigorito 2012 Flaxer Award Winner

The Heights Elementary School physical education teacher will receive it at the foundation's Sept. 20 annual opening reception.

Heights Elementary School physical education teacher Tim Vigorito's enthusiasm for space and other topics has helped land him on top of the Sharon Education Foundation's world. The foundation will present its 2012 Lee Flaxer Award to Vigorito during the nonprofit organization's Sept. 20 annual opening reception, foundation officials said today in a press release. Named for the former Heights principal, the award goes "to an individual who has had an impact on the lives of children through dedication and personal involvement," the press release states. Car washes were held in two school parking lots Saturday.

The water and the towels were out in full force Saturday in Sharon, despite temperatures only in the mid-to-high 60s. Heights Elementary School students and Sharon High School football players both held car washes as fundraisers in their respective school parking lots. Both groups charged $5 per car. The proceeds from the 2nd Annual Heights Hope Project car wash and lemonade stand will benefit Birthday Wishes, a nonprofit company that brings the magic of a birthday party to thousands of homeless children each year.
