Heat wave reaches its fifth day, AccuWeather says.
Thunderstorms have joined the intense heat on weather watchers' radar. The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. for Norfolk County, among other parts of Massachusetts. The agency also has issued a heat advisory, until 7 p.m., warning residents that the 90-something temperatures and the humidity could make them ill. "Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening," the agency said on its website. National Weather Service issues heat advisory for 1 to 7 p.m.
Sharon could hit 100 degrees today for the first time this summer. AccuWeather and the National Weather Service in Taunton both forecast high temperatures in the high 90s: AccuWeather at 98 degrees and the weather service at 97. Sharon's previous high this summer was 96 degrees, during all three days of the heat wave that ran from June 20 to June 22. At 10:22 a.m., the weather service issued a heat advisory for the Sharon area, among others, for 1 to 7 p.m. The agency is recommending drinking lots of fluids, staying in air conditioned rooms and minimizing work outside. Second heat wave of summer expected to start today.
After about an hour of showers this morning, the sun and temperatures are rising in Sharon. The summer of 2012's second heat wave is expected to start today, the National Weather Service in Taunton reports. Three straight days of at least 90 degrees is a heat wave. The season's first heat wave started last Wednesday, the first day of summer, and ended last Friday. Today's high temperature should hit 94 degrees, according to the weather service's website. Sharon should hit the same mark Saturday, the weather service says. Sunday should be a touch cooler, 92 degrees. The National Weather Service in Taunton now says the 90-degree weather continues Friday.
Sharon now faces its first heat wave of 2012. The National Weather Service in Taunton is forecasting a high temperature of 94 degrees on Friday. Three straight days of 90 degrees or more is considered an official heat wave. A list of Sharon cooling centers is here. The Sharon Adult Center and Council on Aging has received one request for heat-related assistance, Executive Director Norma Simons Fitzgerald said today. The adult center responded, with help from the Friends of the Sharon Council on Aging, she said. Fitzgerald also passed along this information from the National Institutes of Health. Acfually this is nothing.I lived in Florida (Miami area) most of my life where 95 degrees + 95 humidity madefor a a crisp,balmy day. Once I visited an estate which was unchanged since the late ( pre airconditioning! )19th century.
