Summer arriving today with a "whew" has Sharon Fire Chief James Wright reminding residents to stay hydrated and cool. The official first day of summer will see temperatures around 95 degrees, and 96 on Thursday, the National Weather Service in Taunton reported on its website Tuesday night. Tuesday afternoon, the agency issued a heat advisory for noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday for much of Southern New England, including the Sharon area. Region under National Weather Service excessive heat watch Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon.
Summer finishes warming up on Wednesday. The season's hottest, most humid weather arrives in Sharon on Thursday -- prompting a National Weather Service alert. Tuesday night, the weather service issued an excessive heat watch for Sharon and much of Southern New England for Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon. Temperatures of 95 to 100 degrees, "with heat indices of 105 degrees or greater," are possible both days, "mainly from noon to 8 p.m.," according to the agency's website. The conditions could cause health problems, such as heat exhaustion, the weather service said.
