Tuesday's event will help celebrate the Parrish family's 80 years of owning the Bay Road landmark.
The Parrish family will celebrate 80 years of owning the Crescent Ridge Dairy by giving kids a treat on cones. Tuesday is 80-cent kiddie cone day at the Bay Road landmark. "It's a way for us to celebrate that with our customers by having an oldy-timey price, to sort of say 'Thank you' to everyone and to celebrate those 80 years," Mark Parrish said today. Crescent Ridge will double its staff Tuesday for the celebration, which originated as the family was "trying to think what we could do for National Ice Cream Day," on July 15, he said. "Last year, we did a $2 sundae. And we learned from that that we really needed to beef up our staff," he said. Crescent Ridge also will hold two free "mooovie" nights this summer: at 9 p.m. Friday, when "…

There was plenty to do here Saturday.
Parking lots in Sharon were packed Saturday. Because crowds were nearby, enjoying youth softball, Ultimate Disc or farm animals. Players and spectators enjoyed day two of the Sharon Youth Baseball and Softball Association's Sharon Summer Showdown tournament at the Ames Street playground and at Sharon High School. And the Sharon High Ultimate Disc program had a barbecue at the school track. Across town, at Crescent Ridge Dairy, the Norfolk County Mini-Whinnies 4-H Club offered pony rides, a bake sale and other activities.

Bird demand leaves some consumers beating the bushes.
Jim Ward ordered about 245 fresh Thanksgiving turkeys this season and had no leftovers. So, responding to the demand, Ward's Berry Farm ordered about 20 more on Friday. "Unfortunately, we're only putting people on our waiting list from this point on," said Ward, whose family owns the South Main Street farm. Thirteen turkeys were left as of Monday afternoon. Sharon's Ward's and Crescent Ridge Dairy both are selling fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving. That's because consumers are beating the bushes looking for a bird in the hand. For the first time, "to see how it will work," Crescent Ridge offered, only to its online customers, 35 fresh turkeys from Misty Knoll Farms in Vermont, Crescent Ridge Sales and Marketing Manager Brad Pond says. "Fresh …

Proceeds from this Sunday's maple syrup sundae sales to support buying Sharon's first ladder truck.
Crescent Ridge Dairy will introduce a sundae Sunday and support a cool addition to Sharon. The maple syrup sundae sale proceeds from noon to 6 p.m. will support the campaign to raise $30,000 to buy Ladder #1, Sharon's first ladder truck, Crescent Ridge Sales and Marketing Manager Brad Pond says. The Sharon Fire Department also will bring trucks to the event, and 4-H will offer horse rides, Pond says. Deputy Police Chief J.J. McGrath and his wife recently bought Ladder #1 and its custom-built trailer from an Ottawa, Canada man who had restored the fire truck. The McGraths plan to sell the vehicles, which are stored at the Department of Public Works, to the Sharon Historical Society. McGrath and Sharon firefighter David Martin have …
