VIDEO: Borderland Mansion Celebrates 100 Years

State promises to dedicate $500,000 towards mansion in next 18 to 24 months.

It was a reason to celebrate Saturday as residents, park-goers, staff members and state officials gathered to recognize the 100th anniversary of the Borderland State Park mansion, which formerly housed Easton socialites Oakes and Blanche Ames. "We are very fortunate that the Ames family had the foresite to purchase this land and manage it as a wildlife preserve," Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Commissioner Edward Lambert Jr. said in front of a large audience. The commissioner promised $500,000, courtesy of the state, to go towards restoring the mansion. According to the commissioner, the century-old building was in need of a facelift.
