Sharon Police, Fire: Blizzard Left Some Residents Stuck, Without Power

Patch spoke with Deputy Chief Richard G. Murphy and Deputy Chief J. McGrath

The town of Sharon took a beating from the Blizzard of 2013 over the weekend, but officials in town said most of the reports they received were of routine nature.  Sharon Patch spoke with Sharon Dep. Fire Chief Richard G. Murphy and Dep. Police Chief J.McGrath on how they weathered the storm. "We had six extra fire fighters on hand to answer the fairly routine calls," Murphy said. "A stokes basket was used to transport a person from their home to the hospital. We did have isolated power outages and were ready with generators and a shelter." McGrath added, "We also had additional police officers on hand. Our calls were mostly from people who were stuck in the snow."

Here's how some readers responded: What do you think? How did Sharon respond to the storm? Were your roads plowed to your liking?

I suppose there is just so much a DPW can do in a storm situation like this. We were lucky not to have major power outages in town, usually devastated by downed trees and wires. As far as snow removal goes. It has been sketchy over the last decade or so. The town contracts out snow removal and honestly...it's the contractors that plow, you know, the ones that really don't care about anything but …   more ›
