Timilty Announces Sales Tax Holiday Weekend

Massachusetts will have a sales tax holiday weekend on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14, state Sen. James Timilty (D-Walpole) says. Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday signed the measure suspending the state's 6.25 percent sales tax on purchases up to $2,500 for those two days, Timilty said in a press release. The Massachusetts Department of Revenue predicts the move will save consumers $20 million this year, Timilty said. Also, Timilty and state Rep. George Ross (R-Attleboro) have co-sponsored a bill banning the sale of "bath salts," which he described as "designer drugs which are currently unregulated and can be sold in stores or over the Internet."
