Train service is being held at Maskwonicut Street because of a bridge issue Wednesday night.
A Mass. Transit Alert has been issued because Amtrak service is held at a Maskwonicut Street bridge until the MBTA can inspect a bridge, because of an electrical issue. Amtrak representatives are also reportedly on the scene Wednesday night. "It appears as though there were arcing wires from the Amtrak train that caused some damage to the bridge," Sharon Police Lieutenent John Ford said. "The bridge is closed. We have some Amtrak workers that are going to come out and are going to work with our DPW probably tomorrow morning to take a look at it." Update: The bridge was still closed as of 10 p.m. Wednesday night.

Worst part of Hurricane Sandy for New England is expected to be from noon through 9 p.m. on Monday.
As of 5 a.m., the National Weather Service Hurricane Center has Hurricane Sandy is about 385 miles south, southeast of New York City. The storm is traveling at approximately 15 mph toward the north. It is expected to turn northwest today, then turn toward the west-northwest tonight. The center of Sandy will move over the coast of the mid-atlantic states in the evening hours. According to reports, Sandy is a hybrid storm, meaning it is a huge Nor’easter with a hurricane in the middle. The storm is currently measuring 900 miles wide, making it the second largest storm on record. Hurricane force winds are expected along portions of the coast between Chincoteague, Virginia and Chatham, Massachusetts. This includes the coasts of Rhode Island. …

MBTA Transit Police continue investigating the incident.
The person struck by an Amtrak train in Foxborough on Monday has been identified as a Foxborough man. Nicholas Bertozzi, 32, of Foxborough was trespassing when the accident occurred, MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said today. The MBTA Transit Police continue investigating the accident, Pesaturo said. At 4:40 p.m. Monday, an MBTA dispatcher notified transit police dispatch of the accident a short time earlier in the area of 5-33 East St., Foxborough, according to the transit police report, which Pesaturo provided. Transit police responded, as did State Police detectives from the Norfolk County District Attorney's office, Foxborough and Sharon Police detectives, and Foxborough and Sharon firefighters, the report states. The MBTA is in the process of restoring its service.
Amtrak service through Sharon has been restored tonight after an Amtrak train fatally struck a person on the tracks between the Sharon and Mansfield MBTA commuter rail stations. The MBTA is in the process of restoring its service, along the Providence-Stoughton commuter rail line to Boston's South Station. The accident prompted the MBTA to run shuttle buses from the Sharon station, at 1 Upland Road, during part of the evening commute. Trains to Providence also were delayed or cancelled. The MBTA alerted commuters to the incident at 4:44 p.m. "All Providence service will experience significant delays due to a trespasser strike between Sharon and Mansfield station," the alert says.
