Sharon Resident Attends Pats Playoff Victory

Nancy Auerbach won tickets after donating blood during a recent blood drive.

A Sharon resident had the privilege of winning tickets to Sunday's playoff victory game between the New England Patriots and the Houston Texans.   Nancy Auerbach won two tickets to the game by donating blood during a Dunkin' Donuts-sponsored American Red Cross blood drive.   Auerbach was one of five who won tickets to the game on Sunday, chosen randomly from a group of 60 other blood donors.   The ticket giveaway was part of the sixth annual "Give a Pint, Get a Pound" campaign to benefit the American Red Cross.

Foxborough Man Surprises Son with Patriots Tickets He Won Giving Blood

Foxborough resident Paul Currie was one of five blood donors to win Patriots playoff tickets after participating in Dunkin' Donuts sixth annual "Give a Pint, Get a Pound" campaign last week at Patriot Place.

Foxborough resident Paul Currie realized the importance of giving blood several years ago when his daughter had a major surgery. “I realized giving blood is something we all need to do,” Currie said. "[It is] easy and the benefits for others are priceless.” Currie, 52, was off from work last week when he heard about an American Red Cross blood drive happening at Patriot Place. “I decided I would do my part,” Currie said of participating in last Thursday’s Dunkin’ Donuts sixth annual “Give a Pint, Give a Pound” campaign. As part of the event at Patriot Place, five lucky donors would win two tickets apiece to Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round playoff game between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium. The Red Cross says there's still time for folks to get flu shots and be covered from what is considered to be a more active flu season.   The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said flu outbreaks are high for this time of the season, with "widespread activity" in Massachusetts. How do you prevent the flu? According to the CDC, in addition to getting the vaccine, you can: How do you know if you have the virus? Symptoms include: high fever, severe body aches, headache, being extremely tired, sore throat, cough, runny or stuffy nose, and vomiting and/or diarrhea (which is more common in children). The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts has launched a website to help residents prepare for an emergence of zombies.

Certainly in the spirit of Halloween, but more appropriate for the long-debated Mayan Apocalypse, the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts this week launched a new website that aims to prepare everyone for dealing with the potential rise of zombies, according to a report in the Metro this week.   The website, SavingZombies.com, provides readers with a count-down to the alleged "apocalypse" that some have suggested on the internet is predicted for Dec. 21 by the ancient Mayans (several resources have debunked the myth on the Internet, such as NASA.com; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, meanwhile, has released tongue-in-cheek "zombie warnings," but has also denied the existence of Zombies, according to The Huffington …

VIDEO: Temple Sinai Blood Drive Collects 34 Units

Now in its 22nd year, this Sharon tradition was held Wednesday.

Temple Sinai of Sharon's 22nd blood drive collected 34 units and drew about 37 donors Wednesday, coordinator Dana Bottorff said today. The next area blood drive is Dec. 28, from 2 to 7 p.m., at the Easton Knights of Columbus Hall. The drive is being held in memory of Nicole St. John, according to the American Red Cross website. Donors will receive a free pound of Dunkin' Donuts coffee. The Foxborough-Sharon Knights of Columbus will host a drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Knights' main building, 14 Church St., Foxborough. Donors will receive a free Boston Bruins T-shirt and a Chili's coupon.
