The Eagles spring track teams had several top-10 performances Thursday.
Sharon High School senior Connor Hichens won the Hockomock League boys spring track long jump and triple jump titles Thursday. Hichens won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 3.75 inches at the meet, held at Oliver Ames in Easton, according to www.athletic.net. Attleboro junior Jared Harris was second (20 feet, 9.50 inches) and King Philip junior Matt Bowers was third (20 feet, 4.75 inches). Hichens won the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, 10 inches. Oliver Ames senior Denzel Bennet was second (41 feet, 10.5 inches) and King Philip senior Conner Smith was third (41 feet, 6.25 inches). The Sharon High School varsity baseball team clinched a state tournament spot Thursday, although the Eagles lost on the scoreboard. Host Stoughton won, 5-2. The loss made Sharon 7-9 overall, 6-8 in the Hockomock League. However, the Eagles clinched at least a share of second place in the Hockomock's Davenport Division, making them postseason bound. The first and second place teams from both Hockomock divisions advance to the state tournament. Last season, Sharon finished 15-5, earning the fourth seed in the MIAA Baseball South Division 2 bracket and receiving a first-round bye. Plymouth North won the semifinal, 4-1. The Sharon High School boys tennis team won its 33rd straight Hockomock League title Thursday by defeating visiting Oliver Ames, 5-0. Sharon (13-0) got singles wins from senior co-captain Vivek Nangia (first, 6-0, 6-0), freshman Peter Hu (second, 6-0, 6-1) and senior Aditya Puttigampala (third, 6-2, 6-2). The Roxbury Latin School senior next competes in this weekend's New England Championships.
Sharon's Thomas Rehnquist, a senior captain of the Roxbury Latin School track team, won the discus at the Independent School League Championship meet last Saturday. Rehnquist threw for a personal best 149 feet, 4 inches. He also finished third in the javelin and competed in the triple jump. Rehniquist will finish his Roxbury Latin career this weekend at the New England Championships.

The Sharon High School Ultimate Disc A-team limited its turnovers to 12 and beat visiting Abington-A, 15-5, Tuesday at the Ames Street Fields. Senior tri-captain Jonah Kurman-Faber led the Bad Clams with 2 goals, 3 assists and 3 D's. Senior Paul Southard had 2 goals, junior Dylan Best had 3 goals and both junior Noah Landy and senior tri-captain Sam D'Arcy had 3 assists. The Sharon High School Ultimate Disc A-team placed fifth of 16 at the 2012 USA Ultimate Northeastern High School Championships this weekend after going 1-1 on day two. Needham beat the Bad Clams, 13-4, in the quarterfinals Sunday, according to the tourney website. Sharon then defeated Pennsbury (PA), 13-1. The Sharon High School girls tennis team earned a state tournament spot by defeating host Ursuline Academy, 3-2, on Friday. The Eagles got singles wins from senior tri-captains Melissa Yuan (first, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3) and Emily Hu (second, 6-2, 6-4), as well as junior Faina Volf (third, 6-2, 6-1). Ursuline swept doubles. At first doubles, Sharon senior tri-captain Alannah Waisel and senior Rachel Bashein lost their match, 6-1, 4-6, 1-6. At second doubles, senior Daniella Edmonds and sophomore Angela Zhang lost, 3-6, 5-7. The Eagles (9-3) needed nine wins to reach the state tournament this season.
