PJ Library® Pizza Shabbat – in your PJs -Welcome in Shabbat with family and friends at this kid–friendly gathering on Friday, October 18 from 5-6:30pm at Temple Kol Tikvah (9 Dunbar Street) in Sharon. We’ll set the tone through enchanting stories and spirited music that will help you feel the warmth of Shabbat. Enjoy a craft project and kosher-style pizza dinner (Kosher option available upon request). Come in your PJs.
Cost is $15/family. Walk-ins are an additional $5. Geared for families with children ages 0-6 years. All JCC arts and humanities offerings are programs of the Ryna Greenbaum JCC Center for the Arts. Fall Rummage and Bric-a-Brac Sale - Come and Find a Treasure at First Congregational Church of Sharon's Annual Fall Rummage and Brick-a-Brac Sale. Clothing, books, household items. Money raised will help support our churches missions. The event starts at 8 a.m. and refreshments will be served.
Not Just Another Coffee House - Steve Tapper and Audie Bridges are a flute and guitar duo from Massachusetts, whose unique and expressive style draws from many different sources, yet maintains a strong identity. Tapper and Bridges have been performing together since 1986, and their repertoire includes distinctive, well-crafted original compositions as well as jazz, classical music, folk music, blues, popular music and various world music styles (Jewish music and Brazilian music are specialties.)
Steve plays flute, alto flute, bass flute, piccolo, renaissance and baroque flute, and recorders, while Audie plays classical guitar, steel-string guitar, twelve-string guitar, electric guitars, and laud. They have released three recordings ("Island Dance" ,"Simple Gifts", and “Shalom Aleichem”), which have received national airplay and international sales. They are currently working on several new recordings.
At the coffeehouse, they will perform both as a duo and as a band accompanied by Zach Bridges on bass, and Mike Connors on drums and percussion. Tickets are $15 or whatever you can afford. The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Sharon.
New Swimmer Tryouts - Sharon Sea Eagles - The Sharon Sea Eagles Swim Team will be holding tryouts for the coming season on Saturday, October 19 at 7pm at the Foxboro YMCA Pool. The team currently has 40 openings for new swimmers. Invitations to the team will be based upon swimmers’ times at tryouts and current age group capacities.
Returning swimmers do not need to try out. Participation is open to children of Sharon residents ages 6 to 18 (on November 1, 2013). Children must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke.
This is a competitive swim team with a minimum of 5 Saturday swim meets. The season runs from November through mid-March, with practices held every Saturday and Sunday evening at the Foxboro YMCA.
