Sharon Observes Veteran's Day

Sharon is hosting its third annual Veteran’s Day celebration! The event will take place on Monday, November 11. Sharon Police Deputy Chief J. J. McGrath and Sharon’s Veteran Agent Paul Bergeron have joined forces again to present an opportunity for the citizens of Sharon to come out and show their appreciation to the military veterans of Sharon in a magnificent way!

“On Monday, November 11th, Veteran’s Day, at 12:00pm in Sharon’s P. O. Square there will be a ceremony to celebrate Veteran’s Day in a way that shows our veterans just how much their service to our country is truly appreciated! After a short speech, followed by a prayer from clergy for our veterans our National Anthem will be sung by the Sharon High School Madrigal Group as the American flag is raised in front of the Bank of America by our Boy Scouts. Church bells will ring followed by the Sharon High School Band playing a premier arrangement of patriotic songs by local arranger/composer, Michael Francis Smith. There will be uniformed personnel from the U. S. Marine Corps, Air National Guard, Army National Guard, Coast Guard Reserves and Army Reserves present. Military vehicles will be on display as well as historic Sharon Fire Department’s 1923 Ladder #1 truck. The Sharon Historical Society will have military uniforms and artifacts on display from most every war this country has fought. This will be the celebration our military veterans deserve”, stated Deputy Chief McGrath. “We are still at war in Afghanistan. Many of our citizens have fought and returned, and others are still actively serving over there right now. It’s the right time to properly recognize them as well as every citizen who ever wore the uniform of our Armed Forces in defense of our country in war time and peace time”, he said.

Post Office Square will be closed down from 11:00am – 1:00pm for the ceremony to allow people to personally thank the veterans present and to look at the many military related displays.
