The Screaming Child

Sometimes the screaming child who is having a meltdown is a child in need of comfort…perhaps a hug. Find an opening and you may be surprised at how quickly he/she calms down.

At our worst moments we, as adults can rely on the life experiences that have taught us how to regulate our emotions. Children, however in the midst of a meltdown are overwhelmed with feelings they cannot decipher and therefore they become scared. As a result some completely shut down and some children fall apart.

Look at your child through a different lens; see him/her not as an adversary, but as needing a connection. Although in a trying moment this may seem impossible it will break the cycle and arrest a downward trajectory.
