Will Sharon Reach 100 Degrees Today?

National Weather Service issues heat advisory for 1 to 7 p.m.

Sharon could hit 100 degrees today for the first time this summer.

AccuWeather and the National Weather Service in Taunton both forecast high temperatures in the high 90s: AccuWeather at 98 degrees and the weather service at 97. Sharon's previous high this summer was 96 degrees, during all three days of the heat wave that ran from June 20 to June 22.

At 10:22 a.m., the weather service issued a heat advisory for the Sharon area, among others, for 1 to 7 p.m.

The agency is recommending drinking lots of fluids, staying in air conditioned rooms and minimizing work outside.

During the 2012 summer's first heat wave, last month, Sharon officials recommended two cooling centers: the and the , which both are air conditioned.

Anyone with a heat-related and health-related emergency is asked to call 911.

Sharon Adult Center and Council on Aging Executive Director Norma Simons Fitzgerald said today that any resident who has pets but lacks air conditioning may call her at 781-784-8000 for assistance.

Sharon's current heat wave is in its fourth day, AccuWeather says. An official heat wave is three or more days of 90 degrees or more.

The high temperatures during this span are: Saturday, 91 degrees; Sunday, 90 degrees and Monday, 94 degrees.
