Sharon Eagles Take Wins Against Foxborough, OA

The swimmers are looking to head into their final two meets as a healthier team and finish the season strong.

The Sharon High School Swimming and Diving Team is looking to finish the season strong.

Last week, the boys took wins over Foxborough and Oliver Ames. The girls beat Foxboro and lost a suspenseful meet against Oliver Ames by four points. Our meets against OA are always exciting and never a boring race. Friday's meet was nothing less. Our boys swam a strong meet taking first place in nine out of 11 events, and 1-2 finishes in six of those nine. On the girls side, we were just out-touched too many times. There were close races from one side of the pool to the other. The kids were into it and the atmosphere was never stale.

Some highlights: At Wednesday's meet against Foxborough, boys 400 free relay of Eoghan Daly, Nickie Cheung, Will Sweet and Ben Mo qualified for states with a time of 3:34.95 and Will Sweet qualified for sectionals in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.13. Friday night's meet against OA our girls team has state cuts in the 200 medley relay (Erin Seigel, Tabitha May, Julia Cox, Alex Arnoff - 2:07.30), 200 free relay (Alex Arnoff, Liza Krause, Christine LaHive, Tabitha May) and Tabitha May's 200 IM (2:24.52). And the 400 free relay team (Christine LaHive, Hannah Blum, Laura Hertz, Liza Krause - 4:13.80) gave us another sectionals cut. On the boys side we had state qualifying times in the 200 medley relay (Eoghan Daly, Jon Dunlap, Varun Beldona, Will Sweet - 1:51.54), 200 free relay (Nickie Cheung, Ben Mo, Jack Fergenbaum, Will Sweet - 1:37.56) and Will Sweet's 100 breaststroke (1:07.01). Ben Mo had a sectionals cut in the 200 freestyle (1:57.81).

We had some additional stand-out swims from Liza Krause who already has state cuts in the 200 free and 100 fly cut more time off her best. Laura Hertz's true colors as a freestyler are starting to shine through as she's becoming a real asset to our relays, chasing her opponents and closing gaps.

We're hoping to head into our final two meets a healthier team. We've been challenged with a lot of illness this year and still have a lot of work to do before the post season arrives.
