Sharon Golfers Aim For Hock Title

Eagles competing in league championships Wednesday, having won Davenport Division.

The hopes Wednesday to add a Hockomock League championshp trophy to the most successful season in head coach Thor Van Vaerenewyck's 11 years.

The Eagles will send senior captain Joey Dalabon, senior Isabel Southard and junior Matt Corman to the league title match at Quincy's Granite Links Golf Club, Van Vaerenewyck said Monday.

Sharon won the Hock's Davenport, or small school, division title with an 11-2 league record, he said. The Eagles were 12-2 overall, the 12th win coming against Hock rival King Philip but counting as a non-league match, he said.

"They played pretty solid. It didn't seem like they made any silly mistakes out there," Van Vaerenewyck said.

"We just talked about how, to understand, if someone's struggling a little bit, don't worry about it, just grind it out and make some pars, because we have enough talent to pick each other up."

Sharon will compete in the state Division 2 finals on Monday, in Amherst, he said.
