Sharon Girls Swim Roster Features Solid Group

Eagles open 2011-2012 on Wednesday.

The girls swimming roster features just one senior.

However, "we have a lot of depth this year," new head coach Jennifer Iverson says.

The Eagles 2011-2012 season opener is against Mansfield at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Randolph High School, Sharon's home pool.

Juniors Erin Seigel and Caroline Sun are Sharon's co-captains. Seigel is a breaststroker, and Sun does middle and long distances, and is a freestyler, Iverson said.

"In and out of the pool, they're just excellent girls. They're great leaders. They're great role models. They encourage the other swimmers to really give it their all," said Iverson, who succeeds Adrienne Smutko, who coached the team the past two seasons. Smutko moved away this summer. John Perry is Iverson's assistant coach.

Junior Carly Krause and senior Tana Bao are among the returnees that Iverson is high on this season.

Bao returns after last swimming for Sharon two seasons ago, Iverson said.

"I'm looking for a lot out of her," she said.

"She's going to be a real asset to the team."

The Sharon High diving program has several newcomers this winter, Iverson said.

The group includes sophomore Manasa Raman and freshmen Anastassia Kain, Arielle Serota, Jessica DoSouto, Rachel Nelson, Sofia von Fedak and Taylor McCully.

"She's an excellent teacher. I've already seen a lot of progress over the last couple of weeks," Iverson said of Dempsey.
