Sharon Middle School Principal Kevin O'Rourke said Goldman was among six SMS eighth-graders nominated.

The others were: Ryan McCann, Michelle Wang, Morgan Usen, Alexa Levitt and Matt Lowerre.

"George Goldman is already an 'ambassador' because of his impeccable personal integrity, his genuine compassion for others and his natural generosity of spirit," Goldman's team said in its nomination statement.

"When George missed school early this year due to a bout with pneumonia, there was a void in our classrooms. George is the type of person who makes everyone feel at ease and valued. He has natural leadership abilities, which are reflected in his daily interactions with anyone in our school community throughout the school day from working in the classroom, traveling in the hallways, to eating in the cafeteria.

"George's experience with Project 351 will only strengthen his inner spirit and reinforce the exemplary morals that radiate from him. He is the type of person who will make a difference."
