Hornets Sting Eagles Boys Basketballers

Sharon travels to Falmouth on Sunday.

The Mansfield High School varsity boys basketball team held Sharon to 26 second-half points to beat the host , 69-42, tonight.

The Hornets (9-4) trailed 12-11 after the first quarter. Strong defense by Sharon forced numerous Mansfield traveling violations during that period.

However, Mansfield scored the first 10 points of the second quarter and outscored Sharon 16-4, taking a 27-16 lead into halftime.

Mansfield also held Sharon's sophomore backcourt duo of James Fritzson and Brian Mukasa to five first-half points, all by Fritzson. Fritzson finished the game with 5 points and Mukasa finished with 3.

Mansfield had senior co-captain and guard Brian Hershman and sophomore guard Michael Hershman covering Mukasa. The duo also contributed offensively. Brian Hershman led the Hornets with 19 points, while Michael Hershman added 11. Senior co-captain and forward Terence O'Mara added 12.

Sharon was led by junior forward Kevin Bartas' 12 points.

Sharon (3-8) lost its sixth straight game.

Sharon travels to Falmouth at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Clippers defeated the Eagles, 64-54, during the Bridgewater-Raynham Holiday Tournament Dec. 27.

Mansfield travels to North Attleboro at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
