Statewide Petition Launched to Update the Bottle Bill

SIGN TO UPDATE THE BOTTLE BILL

For 13  years now there has been a statewide effort to update the Massachusetts bottle deposit law. Presently, a deposit is charged on carbonated drinks. Other beverages such as water, fruit drinks and sports drinks have been exempt. This leads to a huge litter problem.  It is has been estimated the up to 85% of roadside container litter consists of these non-deposit bottles. Cities and towns shoulder a hefty cost to remove discarded bottles from parks and street sides.
After years of failed effort to get the Massachusetts legislature to add a deposit requirement for these exempt bottles a broad coalition* has launched a petition drive to put the Updated Bottle Bill on ballot.

We have until October 3 to collect 100,000 signatures. If you would like to sign or help collect** signatures please contact: Kurt Buermann (SFOC President)
