Sharon Town Administrator Benjamin Puritz Announces Retirement

Town administrator Benjamin Puritz has announced plans to retire from the position in six months.

In Feb. 1981, Benjamin Puritz began his time in Sharon as the town administrator. 33 years later, Puritz's tenure in the position is about to come to an end.

Speaking at last night's selectmen meeting, Puritz announced his intent to retire from the position in six months.

"It’s time for the community and selectmen to start planning for a successor for myself," Puritz said.

After the announcement, all three selectmen had nothing but praise for the long time town administrator.

"I’m in my tenth year now and the finance committee before that I’ve had interactions with him for 20 plus years. The town has benefitted from all your services over the year and all your insight," selectman William Heitin said.

Chairman Joe Roach praised Puritz for his commitment to the town.

"It’s unheard of for a town person like yourself that is in charge of the whole community to be in the position for this long," Roach said. "I look in the paper and I see all these openings for town administrators."

Puritz suggested that the board start the process to create a screening committee at the selectmen's next regular meeting.
