Massachusetts State Senator Brian A. Joyce joined his colleagues on Beacon Hill to create a sales tax holiday this weekend, August 10 and 11, according to a statement from Joyce’s office.

“I’m happy to support this measure yet again, which encourages consumers to get out and support local businesses and their employees,” said Joyce, who represents Sharon and Norfolk County in the State Senate.

The tax holiday, which will occur for the eighth year in a row in Massachusetts, was designed to “increase sales for local businesses and provide relief to consumers, particularly as families prepare for a new school year,” said the statement.

Last year, the tax holiday saved consumers an estimated $23.34 million. As usual, it will apply to purchases under $2,500 and excludes vehicles, motorized boats, tobacco, meals, and utilities.
