Deborah Sampson Stamp Could Be Part of Sharon's 250th Anniversary Celebration

A stamp of Deborah Sampson is just one of the items being worked on in anticipation of Sharon’s 250th birthday.

According to Selectman Chair Joe Roach, a resident in town is working on the getting the United States Postal Service to create a stamp in memory of the Revolutionary War solider for the town’s anniversary.

While the man’s name was withheld by Roach at his request, he may come in soon to fully explain his efforts.

“I’d like to have him come in so he can tell us how far he is and where he’s going with it,” Roach said at a recent selectmen meeting.

The selectmen may also write a letter to their representatives in congress asking for their support for the stamp.

Roach added that planning for the big event is in full swing with the 54-member committee deciding on events and fundraising around town.

In the near future, donors will be able to contribute online in a similar fashion as the process used for purchasing quarterly parking passes for the train station. Any money donated will go towards the planning of the anniversary celebrations.

The Sharon 250th Anniversary celebration will take place in 2015.
