Selectmen Approve Hire of New Police Officer

The selectmen approved a conditional offer for a new police officer.

As long as he finishes his training, the Sharon Police Department will have a new officer in the near future.

As last week’s meeting of the selectmen, the board approved the conditional hire of Matthew Rovaldi as a Sharon police officer.

A Sharon native, Rovaldi has worked with the Sharon police over the past two years as a detail officer and though volunteer work at events like the town’s Independence Day celebration.

According to Police Chief Joseph Bernstein, Rovaldi is a product of the Sharon public schools, a military veteran, and has worked as a fill-in dispatcher for the department.

Both Selectmen Joe Roach and Richard Powell were thrilled with the the likely hiring of a Sharon native who is already familiar with the department.

“This is great that you worked your way up though the positions because it certainly gives us a good awareness of your ability and your dedication,” Powell said.

Chairman Roach added, “You already knows the town, the streets, and people so you already have an advantage head over shoulders over someone who came from another town and it’s nice to appoint someone from our town.”

The offer is conditional on Rovaldi’s ability to complete his training. So far his field work is done and he has participated in ride alongs with Sharon police as part of his training.
