Brockton Couple Indicted in Sharon-Related Elder Abuse Scam

A Brockton woman employed as a caretaker for an elderly Sharon father and his disabled daughter was indicted last week and arrested with her husband in a five-year elder abuse scam, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's office. 

“Some of the conduct alleged in the indictments dates back to 2009,” District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said in a statement. “This has been an extensive and time-intensive grand jury investigation by Assistant District Attorney Greg Connor, chief of white collar prosecution in my office, and the Sharon Police Department – particularly Det. Kevin Bishop. Det. Bishop’s work has been excellent.”

The Norfolk County Grand Jury indicted Prisca Halaby, 35, of Brockton for five counts of larceny of property valued at more than $250, by single scheme, from a person over the age of 60 or disabled, two counts of credit card fraud and three counts of identity fraud. 

Halaby's husband, Dominique Halaby, 45, also of Brockton, was indicted for larceny of property valued at more than $250 by single scheme from a person over the age of 60 or disabled.

Sharon Polie Det. Kevin Bishop and Det. Scott Leonard, accompanied by Brockton Police, issued a NOrfolk Superior Court indictment warrant on Friday and arrested the couple, transporting them to the Sharon Police Department and setting bail at $250,000 over the weekend. The couple did not post bail, according to the DA's office. 

“We expect the full scope of these allegations will be made clearer during arraignment in the Norfolk Superior Court at 2 p.m. today,” Morrissey said in a statement. “The Sharon Police department and Det. Bishop were excellent partners in this grand jury investigation.”

The maximum penalty on the lead charge for each defendant is 10 years in State Prison.
