Ultimate Frisbee "Spirit of the Game" Tournament at Sharon High

The Sharon High School Ultimate Frisbee Club hosted the 2nd Annual Spirit of the Game tournament on Sunday, Oct. 27. Led by Head Coach David Christiansen and Assistant Coaches Mike Dussault, James Acone and  Brad Powell, the tournament caps off the fall club season.

Twelve teams competed, not to see who would be the high scorer, but just to put their efforts into good sportsmanship and acknowledge the individual players who demonstrated the most spirit.

One individual from each team was chosen by opposing teams to represent the most "spirited" individual. These individuals were rewarded with the opportunity to play an exhibition match with the Whitecaps, Boston's professional Ultimate frisbee team and the 2013 Major League Ultimate champions! Congratulations to Uri Starr and Natan Fandel, who were chosen from the Sharon teams.

The 12 teams represented Ashland, Attleboro, Barrington, Cut & Run (a mixed high school team from western Mass) , Easton, Lexington, Needham, Newton North, Newton South, Xaverian Brothers and 2 teams from Sharon.

My husband and I joined other parents along the Sharon sidelines. I noticed that players reached out to help opposing players up when they fell, cheered one another, and praised good plays made by teammates and opposing players alike.

Fantastic weather made for a great tournament day! Blue skies, sun and moderate temperatures. The teams played from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sharon High School sports fields. Food, beverages, t-shirs and other Ultimate gear was sold as part of the fundraising effort for the Sharon team.

Looking forward to watching more games in the Spring!
