100th Anniversary of the Sharon Public Library, 1914-2014

It's the 100th Anniversary of the Sharon Public Library Building 1914-2014

The Sharon Public Library Building has reached its 100th anniversary! Members of the Friends of the Library, are planning a number of opportunities to learn about our library's history, as well as to showcase authors, books, movies, music and much more from 1914!

If you've been to the Sharon Public Library recently, you probably noticed the beautiful display board as you walked in. This is the first in a series of display boards sharing information about how the Town of Sharon built the library building and how we became a Carnegie Library.

I've always liked peering into the past to see what life was like. Helping to prepare the displays gave several of us the opportunity to read the notes from the original Sharon Public Library Association. We learned that they faced the same challenges and frustrations that committees face today especially when it came to fundraising!

Did you know that our library is a Carnegie library? I had no idea, nor did I know what that meant! It presents a very different side of Andrew Carnegie from that which most of us learned in school. Check out the Display Boards near the checkout desks to learn more!
