Snow Gives Sharon Halloween Nightmare

NSTAR: 95 percent of Sharon without power as of 8 a.m.

Sharon is living a nightmare before Halloween.

NSTAR reports that 95 percent, or 6,318, of its 6,652 Sharon customers were without electricity due to the Halloween weekend snowstorm as of 8 a.m.

Crews are assessing the damage, the utility reports on its website. One Sharon resident tells Sharon Patch that Moose Hill lost power around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Sharon Patch has received reports of downed power lines here.

The National Weather Service had said Saturday that the heavy wet snow and strong gusts from the storm could knock down trees and power lines.

Foxborough had received 6.5 inches of snow as of 8:07 a.m., a weather service employee reported on the agency's website.

Both the town of Sharon and have canceled their Halloween festivities today.

Kids may still pick up their Halloween bags at the Sharon Fire Station, Assistant Recreation Director Amanda Deni said.

Yesterday, today's Sharon-King Philip high school varsity girls soccer match was postponed to 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Xaverian Brothers High School has rescheduled today's open house to 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 due to a power outage, according to the school's website.

Sharon Patch will be monitoring the storm throughout the day.

Readers should e-mail storm photos and cancellations to Michael.Gelbwasser@patch.com.

A 4 O'clock pm tour of Borderland to Massapoag to Moose Hill to Wolomolopoag revealed not one single work crew, utility vehicle or bucket truck. Get used to the darkness friends, this could be a full week. Howard Wiseman, cold/dark/bitter

maybe the town should consider underground utilities where the water table would allow it...........

Towns that own their own utilities (Mansfield and North Attleboro) seem to have much less of this nonsense. Much of the problem is negligent line maintenance and non-existent tree trimming.
