Plans in Motion to Clean up Pond Area Near Sacred Heart

With the town ready to turn the Sacred Heart property into a park, an Eagle Scout is ready to do his part in cleaning up the nearby pond.

Receiving the approval of the selectmen on the condition that he talks to the conservation commission and checks in with the Sharon Friends of Conservation, high school student Liam Murphy will be allowed to restore the area near Sacred Heart Pond.

A popular place for residents to skate and play hockey, Murphy said he wants to trim back some brush, put in new benches, and install a new kiosk with safety tips.

For now, the warming shed by the pond is expected to stay but the selectmen would like to take a look at it again during the project.

According to Murphy, the budget for the renovations is about $1,000 with others at the high school asking to help out and fundraising efforts to start in the near future.

Murphy said he would like to get everything done before the ground freezes per the advice of town engineer Peter O’Cain but is still a couple of weekends away from starting due to previous commitments.
