Chapter 1

Unless you can relate to Pettee's, Bendi's, Mackey's, Morgan's, Bobby Hill's, Moulton's Aronson's Morses, Horton's Variety, A & P, White Wing, Raiders, China Villa, Traut's Garage, Butchie's, Sweetman's, The Trading Post, The Box Company, BPM, Peck's, Taylor's Chevrolet, George Little and Sons, Kappy's or The Sharon Turkey Farm, you probably can't relate to a Townies Perspective. We were once a quiet little resort town, where yes, everyone knew one another's name. Where the "Fire Horn" would sound and everyone in the house would run to the window to check out the fire truck. Wow...excitement in Sharon. At Noon time the air raid siren would go off indicating "Lunch time" We looked forward to Walter Reeves next edition of "The Advocate" to see what was up in town last week, that the local gossiper didn't tell you.
Ahhh...the good old days out and about town. We'd all meet up "The Square" or down to "The boat Docks"..or over to The Heights..a time when it was a right of passage to swim out to the barrels, or go shooting up at the dump or over to "The Pits". A time when you could walk down the street with you .22 over your shoulder and Officer Matthews would stop you to remind you to be careful, act as if the gun was always loaded and not to shoot over the top of the range. Where summers as a kid were spent outside in the woods, hunting, fishing and hiking. A time EVERYONE Showed up at the fireworks...either at The Sacred Heart Field or down the Lake!
But that's just the tip of the iceberg of "A Townies Perspective." oh I'm sure there are going to be people out there who insist on telling me that you have to move on from the simpler times, keep up with the times, do what's best for the town (in their minds) but do you really have to? I look at all the red tape, political BS that goes on here and really wonder why. Does someone always have to play king of the mountain...have we lost our, dare I say, "Yankee ingenuity" to make things happen here in town.
Do we really want another shopping mall in town, a housing project, Another ball field, MWRA, Hillstone, Brickstone, this that or the other thing... or even paving Mountain Street?...I wonder What Deborah Sampson would have to say about all of this?
