Young traditional Irish band The Ivy Leaf will be playing at Not Just Another Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Church of Sharon on Saturday, February 16th at 7:00 PM. Tickets will be $10 at the door, and refreshments will be available.

Initially formed by Lindsay Straw (bouzouki, guitar, vocals) as a way to explore her own interest in the interconnected streams of folk music in Ireland, Britain, and America, the Ivy Leaf is now a young stalwart of traditional Irish music in Boston, featuring Caroline O’Shea (flute, whistle, vocals), Armand Aromin (fiddle, whistle), and Dan Accardi (fiddle, concertina). The members’ diverse backgrounds in Berklee College of Music, All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil competitions, and the rich Irish culture of Boston combine to produce a sound that is “vibrant and sure-footed, and tailored to fully reveal each tune’s character and personality” (Sean Smith, Boston Irish Reporter). Highly sought after to play for weddings and other private events, the Ivy Leaf has also been featured at prestigious local venues such as Club Passim in Cambridge, the Irish Ceilidh Club of Rhode Island, and the New England Folk Festival. The group also teaches for the Boston Reynolds-Hanafin-Cooley branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann music school, as well as private lessons in the area.

Their first album, released in March of 2012, “features nimble playing and skilled arrangements that convey a great enthusiasm for traditional Irish music” (Dan Neely, Irish Echo). It is available for purchase from Amazon, CDBaby, and iTunes.

Not Just Another Coffeehouse was founded with the vision of bringing the community together around great music and conversation. They feature talented musicians from the Greater Boston area, and strive to bring an eclectic mix of musical styles, including traditional folk, jazz, and world music. It is open to all who wish to come and enjoy.
