Bon Jovi Curfew Moved to Midnight

By Daniel Libon

When Bon Jovi comes to town on July 20, they will be playing a little later than usual. Requesting a new curfew time, the Foxborough Board of Selectmen voted 4-0 to move the required end time to the show from 11:15 p.m. to midnight.

The request came because when the original entertainment license was approved, it was done so without an opening act signed on to perform. Since then the Boston-based J. Geils Band was announced as the opener.Because of their local roots, they are expected to play a longer set than what is normal for an opening act.

The stadium advisory committee endorsed the extension 9-1 and public safety officials have stated that they have no issues with the request.

As part of the agreement to allow for a later curfew, the volume of the concert will be lowered at 11:15 p.m., officials will be outside the stadium measuring the decibel level if needed, and there will be a fine structure in place in the event Bon Jovi plays after midnight.

Using the same format as the Comcast Center in Mansfield, a fine of up five cents per attendee will be issued for going less than five minutes past the curfew. The fine goes up to 25 cents for 15 minutes and gradually increases to $1.75 per attendee for going over one hour.

Alcohol sales will end near the start of the main event as is normal for Gillette Stadium concerts.

The last time a concert went that late was in 2008 when the selectmen amended the hours of a Bruce Springsteen concert to go until 11:45 p.m. Thunderstorms and hail forced a delay of 90 minutes and prevented Springsteen and the E Street band from getting to the stadium until 8:45 p.m.

No fines were issued for the concert that ended at 12:05 a.m.

The fine structure for playing past the curfew is as follows:

  • Less than 5 minutes: up to 5 cents per attendee
  • Less than 15 minutes: up to 25 cents per attendee
  • Less than 30 minutes: up to 50 cents per attendee
  • Less than 45 minutes: up to 75 cents per attendee
  • Less than 1 hour: up to $1.25 per attendee
  • Over 1 hour: up to $1.75 per attendee
