Alice Catherine Cunningham, 101, Charter Member of Sharon Garden Club

Alice Catherine Cunningham, age 101, died at the Village at Willow Crossing in Mansfield, Massachusetts on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born in Chelsea, on Sept, 29, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (McArdle) Landry. She was a Mansfield resident since 2010, moving there from Sharon, where she lived for 60 years.

Alice was a wonderful homemaker for all of her adult life. She loved caring for her family, enjoyed sewing, knitting, arts and crafts, floral design, and bingo. As an avid gardener, she cultivated a beautiful garden at her home and was a charter member of the Sharon Garden Club. She was a devoted Boston sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Red Sox.

Her family, friends and her exceptional caregivers will remember Alice as a refined woman of strong faith with a generosity of heart and a true joy for life and laughter. To all it was clear she was blessed with both inner and outer beauty. Such was her beauty that in the 1930’s Alice garnered the coveted title of Miss John Hancock.

Alice was the beloved wife of the late James F. Cunningham. Loving mother of James F. Cunningham, Jr. and his wife Anna of Walpole, Robert P. Cunningham and his wife Diana of Haddonfield, New Jersey, Kevan J. Cunningham and his wife Sheila of Norton, and the late Bernard D. Cunningham, and the late Baby Maura Cunningham, cherished grandmother of James Cunningham of Wrentham, Sean Cunningham of Easton and great grandmother of six, sister of the late Julian Landry and Amelia Vittorini, aunt of Jeanne Grant and her husband, William.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Cottage Street, Sharon on Friday, July 19, at 10 a.m.. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Interment is private and will be in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one`s choice.

On behalf of Alice, the Cunningham family wishes to thank David W. Faling M.D. and his staff, David N. Gale DDS, Epoch of Sharon staff, Norwood Hospital staff ,Rite Aid staff and the entire community at “The Willows” as all provided superb and expert care to Alice throughout her last years.
