5 Things: ESPN Honors the Hoyts


1. It's going to be another one today and power outages are expected. Temperatures are expected to reach 95 degrees today and 98 tomorrow, according to WHDH-TV. Sounds like a good day to hit the beach.

2. Congratulations to Dick and Rick Hoyt for being awarded with Jimmy V Perseverance Awards at the ESPYs. "Thirty-seven years ago, no one would even talk to us, but because my Dad said yes when I asked him to push me in the first race, and my family, especially my brothers Rob and Russ, have always stood by us and helped us persevere, even with so many people telling us we did not belong, we are here," said Rick Hoyt, who has cerebral palsy and spoke via an electronic device, on ESPN. "It only proves the wisdom of Jimmy V's words: 'Don't give up, don't ever give up.'" The Hoyts have a long relationship with Sharon after coming in the Sharon Triathlon for years.

3. The town is accepting applications for CDL Bus Driver for the elderly and disabled. The requires are three plus years of experience, for approximately 20-23 hours/week, hours subject to change, may include some/expanding weekend/evening hours. Required: passenger sensitivity, excellent driving record.  high school graduation/equivalent.  Need (or learn) First Aid, CPR, defibrillator, wheelchair securement; read maps/GPS,  English.  Medical exam, CORI check, and mandated drug/alcohol testing required.  Knowledge of Sharon streets helpful. $18.53/hr. start; benefits. 4. This sounds like fun. The Sharon American Legion Auxiliary is having a summertime bash. Chicken Kabobs and cheeseburgers are some of things on the menu. There will be raffles, music, games and tournaments. Donations are $15 for adults and $7 for kids under 10. For tickets please speak with a bartender or call Regina at 508-981-0293.

5.Two of the top hospitals in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report, are located in Boston. Mass General Hospital was No. 2 on the list, while Brigham & Women's Hospital was ninth. Johns Hopkins Hospital was No. 1 on the list.
