Stoughton Selectmen Approve Licenses for Mediterranean and Thai Restaurants

Chicken Kebab, a Mediterranean/Turkish fast food style restaurant, and Rukmae, which will serve Thai cuisine, will both be located at different ends of Washington St. in Stoughton.

The Stoughton Board of Selectmen approved the common victualler licenses for a pair of new restaurants on Washington St. in Stoughton at their meeting Tuesday night - Chicken Kebab, a Mediterranean/Turkish fast food style restaurant, and Rukmae, which will serve Thai cuisine.

Chicken Kebab, owned by Ali Aykurt, will be in the downtown at the former Kabob House location at 756 Washington St.

Home to a handful of different restaurants in recent years, the Kabob House opened in the spring of 2010 but was forced to close when heavy snow collapsed the roof of the building next door back in January 2011, which subsequently caused damage to the Kabob House.

Repairs were made but the restaurant space remained vacant, until now.

Signs are up for Chicken Kebab, which plans to open soon.

Meanwhile, Rukmae, which means "loving mom," will be located at 1778 Washington St. in a space at the Planet Fitness Plaza. The name is a tribute to the owner's mother.

Owner Jutaporn Sae Bang used to run the Siam House in Quincy, which she said was recognized by "Best of Boston" in Boston Magazine, and now brings her love of Thai cuisine to Stoughton.

Rukmae has a projected March 2013 opening.

Both restaurants will seat between 20 and 24 patrons.

Can't wait to try Rukmae at the Planet Fitness Plaza (nice and close too). When is Zachary's moving to that area?
