(VIDEO) Characters, Sharon Community Help Chernobyl Children

Clifford the Big Red Dog, Bugs Bunny, Darth Vader and Cinderella spent this morning in Sharon, helping children affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

7th Annual Meet and Greet Character Breakfast drew families for face painting, dancing with some of their favorite fictional characters, and other activities.

The proceeds will benefit the Chernobyl Children Project USA Inc., "a non-profit organization that helps children who continue to suffer from the devastating effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster," according to an event flyer.

"The Project has helped over 1,600 children from the contaminated and impoverished zone of Klintsy, Russia and Gomel, Belarus receive life-saving medical care from Boston-area hospitals," the flyer notes.

"Families in Sharon and in our surrounding communities have served as host families for some of these children over the years."
